How can editing services improve your project?

I provide thorough attention and thoughtful support in that next step after writing: shaping your project into organized, engaging, and polished final content.

What I appreciated the most was that she preserved my voice in my manuscript, rather than taking apart the character to fix mechanical issues that were also acceptable. —Amanda B., independent writer

I’m a freelance editor with over a decade of experience in educational and nonfiction trade publishing. I got an editing certificate from University of Chicago in 2019 and since then I have joined the rosters of many publishers, including Simon & Schuster imprints, Penguin, Chronicle Books, BenBella, and more.

I specialize in nonfiction books that teach readers something new. How to handle a problem, learn a new skill, master a topic, or explore their curiosity about a language or food. I help authors share their expertise in the clearest and most accurate way they can so that readers feel immersed and connected.

What type of services do I provide?

Your book is fleshed out, chapters are where you want them, and the paragraphs have some momentum. The book has gone from outline to draft to “nearly there.” Now it’s time for fine-tuning.

  • Does every sentence ring true, or are there still a few awkward phrases or misplaced sentences slowing the flow? Consider a line edit.
  • Did you skip a section in one of the chapters, or lose track of whether all your headings match? And does every special term get defined—or will readers stumble over jargon? Consider a copyedit.
  • Finally, in focusing on the ideas, did grammar or punctuation issues slip through that distract from the credibility and potency of those ideas? It may be ready for a proofread.

Line Editing

Put more order into your writing by reworking paragraphs and sentences to improve flow and clarity at a big-picture level.

Copyediting

Focus in on mechanics, sentence structure, and consistency to make sure your ideas come across clearly, eloquently, and accurately.

Proofreading

Fix spelling and grammar issues to move from advanced draft stage to final copy.

These hands-on editing steps provide direct solutions wherever you’re at and get your writing closer to publishing. Read more about available editing services.
